What is the Bible? Why did God give us the Bible?
Here's the answer: God gave us the Bible to help us know God better and live for Him.
The Bible is a collection of 66 books God has given to help us know more about Him. It has two parts, the Old Testament and New Testament. The Old Testament has 39 books and covers from the beginning of the world until the time of the prophets in about 400 B.C. The New Testament has 27 books and covers the time when Jesus came to earth and died for us. It also tells what His early followers did in the first century A.D.
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right.” The Bible can help us know what is right and what is wrong.
The Bible is also written for us to obey and live differently. James 1:22 says, “Don’t just listen to the word. You fool yourselves if you do that. You must do what it says.” The best thing to do with the Bible is to learn it and live it out in your life.
Bible Truth
"God has breathed life into all Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right" (2 Timothy 3:16).
"The word of God is alive and active. It is sharper than any sword that has two edges. It cuts deep enough to separate soul from spirit. It can separate bones from joints. It judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).
